Just learned through Twitter Log Insight is GA now version 1.0.4. Check out the full details on the VMware Product page

Scalable

I've been running the beta for some time now and I like this product a lot. Not only it is very easy to analyze your ESX(i) hosts logs, you can also analyze syslog messages from any other system. I'm not at all worried running a large enterprise through this product, I've been pushing 100.000 messages per hour to it without any issue (see below), so I think it is VERY scalable.

The current vApp is configured with 4 vCPUs and 16GB. As you can see it can be easily be downsized to 1 vCPU and 2GB and still process an high amount of messages.

VCOPS

One of the coolest thing you can do is forward log counters to VCOPS. That means VCOPS is doing the smart analysis and alerting you when behavior inside log messages changes (either good or bad). Do not under estimate this - you've got GOLD in your hands, allowing you to even do better predictions and put KPI on some resources.

Community

Another cool thing is the ability to create, export and import 'Content Packs' allowing you to share new type of logging. There are powerful packs integrated already (just the SCSI/iSCSI and NFS stuff is so awesome, and actually just works), but I can see a future where the community is creating and sharing new packs to enhance the analysis on log files even more.

Conclusion

Go ahead, download the 60 day evaluation. I'm sure you'll like it - and now let's hope VMware doesn't overprice this tool too much so everyone can enjoy descent syslog analysis and troubleshooting.
