I have cfengine (version 2) working with all our linux servers. I tried with esx and it works great. Config-management to the rescue of the stressed sysadmin.
You can get a rpm from rhel v3 from the dag rpm repository, it just works.
Cfengine is great in combination with kickstart, of course.
